The Second Sign a Direct Message Comes from God
In prior posts, we learned direct messages/personal revelation can come from God. Teresa says these “locutions” must align with the scriptures. She also says they come with several signs. The first sign we discussed in our last post: They bear a sense of power and authority. Teresa now provides us a second sign of locutions coming from God: There will be great tranquility in the soul. As we receive locutions from God our soul becomes peaceful and “devoutly recollected”. Centered in peace and bound in love with Him, we desire to sing praises to God.
Teresa says, in the Sixth Mansions the direct messages come through an angel and not the Lord Himself. At Christmas, we are reminded how the angels spoke at the time of the incarnation bringing direct messages to Mary, Joseph, Zechariah, and the shepherds.
To Joseph, an angel of the Lord brought several direct messages through dreams. An angel appeared to Zechariah to let him know his prayer has been heard and provided him a detailed message from God. The “angel Gabriel was sent by God to a town in Galilee called Nazareth” with a direct message to Mary. And “an angel of the Lord stood before” the shepherds: ‘I am bringing you good news of great joy for all the people: to you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is the Messiah, the Lord.'”
